BULAWAYO and several parts of the Matabeleland provinces have received their first rains of the 2025 summer season since the weekend, with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) forecasting more isolated showers during the week.

The city experienced its first light rains on Sunday night, bringing relief from the heat and resulting in chilly morning temperatures.

According to the MSD, partly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated showers are expected in the western and northern parts of the country.

The weather agency has also warned of the possibility of thunderstorms and urged citizens to exercise caution.

“Secure loose objects outdoors, such as rooftops and garden furniture, to prevent them from being blown away and causing injury.

Stay clear of damaged buildings, trees and downed power lines,” the MSD warned.

Residents in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, and the southern parts of Midlands and Manicaland provinces have been advised to keep warm, as cloudy, windy and cool weather conditions are expected, a shift from the previously sunny days.

However, from today (Thursday), temperatures in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan and Masvingo provinces are expected to rise.

“Clear skies and mild morning temperatures are expected from 23 October, with mostly sunny and hot afternoons,” said the agency.

In the northern parts of the country, including Harare Metropolitan and the Mashonaland provinces, partly cloudy conditions are anticipated from tomorrow.

“When lightning flashes, even if the sky above appears clear, please move indoors immediately and keep hydrated by drinking sufficient amounts of water,” the MSD advised.
